Implementation of Performance Life of Various HMA Mixes in Texas
The main goal of this implementation project is to develop a web-application that provides TxDOT engineering personnel with network-level, service life information of hot mix asphalt ( HMA) in Texas. The web application: Performance Life of HMA Mixes in Texas (PERMIT ) , provides users with HMA service life trends, condition deterioration data, and project-level details. Comprehensive HMA design and quality control/quality assurance (QC/QA ) information, as derived from Site Manager, is also accessible through the web application. The capabilities within PERMIT are made possible through c omplex , database merging algorithms developed by the research team. These merged databases consist of the latest versions of the Letting Database, Design and Construction Information System (DCIS), Pavement Analyzer (PA), and Site Manager. PERMIT is an interactive tool that is developed utilizing Google application programming interfaces (APIs) for geospatial mapping of the pavement network and data visualization. The focal point throughout development is to introduce capabilities to serve the fundamental purpose of the application being utilized as a diagnostic tool for identifying influencing factors of pavement performance/service life. PERMIT is being developed considering user experience (UX) principles to ensure the features and processes are efficient, logical, and user-friendly.
This implementation project has origins, initial findings and engineering framework developed from TxDOT Research Project 0-6679-01: Performance Life of Various HMA Mixes in Texas . That research project consisted of developing a data-driven methodology for obtaining the performance lives of HMA mixes in Texas. A significant component of the methodology consisted of assessing the “cradle-to-grave” service lives of HMA surface courses; defined as the successive time period(s) between the initial placement of the HMA to overlay, resurfacing, rehabilitation or reconstruction.
